23rd Aug 2006 Wednesday

Heard from somewhere quite some time back that Singapore has been rated as one of the most unhappiest and uncourteous country in the world. Incidentally, Singaporeans also lead one of the fastest pace of life in the world. That sort of made me wonder. Could the two be somewhat linked? But I have always thought that a fast pace of life should lead to economic growth and prosperity, leading to a better life for each and everyone of us which leads to happiness. Isn't that so? But those two ratings seem to hint that it might very much be the other way round. Or perhaps the economic wealth that we enjoy from our labor isn't enough to compensate the amount of work that we put in and the amount of stress we suffer? But if unhappiness was the result of our labor, what value do our labor hold?

Perhaps we are so indulged in work that our work life has gradually become but a game of wealth accumulation, so much so that we forgot that what is most important is not only wealth, but really, happiness......
